Professor Kenneth Jordan the winner of a 2008 Provost Award for Excellence in Mentoring 03/27/2008 The Pitt Provost’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring—to recognize graduate faculty members for excellence in mentoring doctoral students—was instituted in 2006. Each award includes a $2,500 cash prize. Up to four awards are made each year, and awardees are honored publicly. The awards guidelines note that, “Training the next generation of professional scholars is a vital part of the academic mission of the University of Pittsburgh. Fundamental to the success of the enterprise are the faculty members who serve as mentors to our graduate students. Ideally, faculty mentors provide intellectual and personal leadership that helps to support, encourage, and promote the personal and professional development of his or her students. This relationship is expected to provide a foundation for a student’s career long after the degree has been granted.”
This photo was taken by my dad's secretary at the reception. Jordan stole the show, of course!

New Hobby
I have decided to learn how to knit baby leg warmers. A friend introduced me to the concept when she gave Jordan a pair of Babylegs. (there are some photos below of Jordan in them). I LOVE them and they are awesome, however I do not have the funds to invest in all the totally awesome patterns available. Recently another friend, who is unable to purchase baby leg warmers online due to her location, asked if she could have some sent over. Trying to be cost-effective, I decided to find a pattern online, tweak it to my liking, and make my friend a pair of baby leg warmers. I have finished one, and although they look nothing like the store bought ones, they do look mighty comfy and warm (much warmer looking than store bought).
I want to embroider some sort of picture or letter or something to put on all pairs I knit, so people know it was me who did them. Any suggestions? I certainly cannot do my initials... = O

Caught!
Our office has a "thief"... random things disappear if you aren't careful. Normally these are food products. You know, you bring food in for yourself and put it in a bag in the fridge, quite obvious that it belongs to someone. A few days later and half your cottage cheese is missing!! Then an apple core (who takes these??), or a banana, or your cheese dip. My grapefruit must have grown arms and legs, opened the fridge from the inside, and ran away. Now a knife is missing. Anyway, back to the current story.
My co-workers and I have a suspect. It is confirmed on only 2 occassions. Well, here's what happened today:
So I'm sitting in my office finishing up lunch and Suspect walks by. Suspect sees my People magazine (well, my mom's magazine) and comes into my office.
"Whose magazine is this?" Suspect asks while picking it up and flipping through it.
"Mine".... long pause.... " I haven't read it yet, but you can borrow it when I'm done."
"Oh"... another long pause.... "that's ok. You go ahead and read it".
Um, thanks? its mine and I was going ot read it anyway.
Glad I was here. I must remember to keep my office door closed when it is vacant from now on!

Another month passes
I realized yesterday that Jordan is 14 months old. This month has been fairly uneventful (aside from Dave getting a job). No significant illnesses. Thank goodness no more ear infections, which means no tubes for Jordan. 2 teeth and another coming in, saying cat, discovering pretzel sticks, and learning animal noises. Nothing out of the ordinary. This month has made me realize how quickly time can pass and how precious it really is. Not to take anything for granted. Every moment needs to be savored. Easier said than done when your daughter wants to bite you ever other minute!! Did find out that Jordan has a bit of appreciation for Gilburt & Sullivan operettas! She's my daughter for sure! And my goodness how I love her!!! =)
Same old stuff
