Birthday Party Cake

Against better judgment I thought a joint party for the kids would be easier and less work than separate parties... besides, the same people were invited to both parties, so it just made sense. However, I think next year we'll just do 2 parties since Jordan calls it HER party and won't acknowledge that Ben has a birthday too.

Anyway, Jordan LOVED hopscotch this past summer so I thought a hopscotch cake would be cute. It didn't turn out how I had imagined it to be, but I think it'll do. When I asked Jordan what she thought of her cake she said "oh! MY hopscotch cake. THANK YOU MOM!" =)

Mommy: Jordan, what do you see?

Jordan: ... Nooooothiiiiing....

and that sums up the drive from El Paso, TX to Ruidoso, NM.

Our Potty Wars

Having a toddler is an adventure, which I assumed it would be when I signed up for all this parenting stuff. But the POTTY adventure was one I was NOT prepared for. When we had Jordan I was a little excited she would be in daycare because then the daycare would be doing much of the potty training. But we moved a few months before the age at which they start. So here I was all on my own, just me... the potty... and an unwilling toddler.

No matter what kind of bribe or how many I used, Jordan was unwilling. We managed to get her to go potty one day a few months ago and bought her a small horse toy, thinking such a big prize would surely get her back on the potty. No go. I let her pick out pull ups and underwear. No go. Every attempt ended in tears for both me and her. So I left it be.

Until the last week of December. One night, while Dave and I were on a rare date, Jordan went up to my mom and said " I have to go potty". And since that moment, she has been daytime potty trained. She made it the 10 hour drive home, she made it 2 days of flying this past weekend.

Last night we were out of diapers and pullups of her size. So I asked if she wanted to wear her underwear to bed. Thankfully she said yes, because I really didn't want to go out to the store! She made it all night, no accidents.

I am one proud momma!!!

Happy (belated) Birthday Baby Boy!!!

1 year stats:
22lb 10oz
29.25 inches

Yesterday my baby *tear* turned ONE year old... I know it is a cliche to say time flies, but it does! It really really does. Somehow he transformed from this teeny tiny baby who barely fit into preemie clothing into a cruising bruiser of a boy!

Happy New Year!!

Well, my post is a little late, but happy 2010 to all my followers, casual readers, and random people out there on the internet!

We have had a busy start to the new year. We started by driving home on January 1st from Pittsburgh. We were visiting for the week, and although we had fun seeing my parents and our friends, it was an exhausting trip. Ben decided to cut his two front top teeth and was a bit of a crab (read "woke up every 1.5 hours at night") so we were pretty tired by the end of the trip. However, Jordan made up for it by deciding it was time to use the potty!! She now wears underwear during the day and has only had one accident in the past 5 days. I am so proud of her!!

Not only has Ben decided to grow new teeth, but he also has mastered the art of stair climbing, peek-a-boo playing, and cruising on whatever he can pull up on. He is a very busy guy these days!

I have made some new years resolutions, though I usually try not to. I have the usual "lose weight, eat healthy, exercise more, be a better wife, mother, daughter, woman, etc". I want to try at least one new recipe a week since I have so many cook books, recipes saved in my email, and from magazines. I really would like to try and master best to my ability some new activity/craft/hobby this year. I can't decide what though. Any suggestions??? I want to find something that isn't too time consuming, something I can do for 15 minutes, put down, go back to later in the day, and that isn't too expensive as we have a tight monthly budget.

I am excited for this year, I suspect it will be a good one!
